ROHN 502 Porcelain Insulator 10,000 lbs
Guy Line Insulators are used to divide guy wires into non-resonant sections. This prevents the guy lines from altering the antenna's radiation pattern due to near-field interaction. A compression-type design is used and the insulator is compressed within the wire loops, so that if the insulator should break, the guy wires are still attached. Breaking strength for these insulators is 10,000 pounds.
Tower Guy Wire Tension Guide The recommended initial tension in guy wires is 10% of their ultimate tensile strength. There are two different grades of steel used for good guy line (clothes line does not count), HS (high strength) and EHS (extra high strength). The Rohn manual gives the following info on 3/16 and 1/4 in cable.
1. Rohn 502 Guy Strain Porcelain Insulator 10,000 lbs - $15.95 | 2. Dual Port Coaxial Cable Ground Block GRB-2-B - $0.85 |
